Special Announcement: Due to the fact that I am pregnant and will be having my daughter this fall, I am pleased to introduce Ms. Murphy as my maternity leave substitute teacher. She has many years of experience teaching social studies and is very excited to join the Sauganash family!
Meet Ms. Murphy!
Hi everyone! My name is Ms.Murphy, and I’ll be joining the team this year while Mrs. Hadfield is on maternity leave. I’m originally from Houston and have been living in Chicago for two years now. I studied in Political Science and International Relations back in Texas, along with a master’s in Curriculum and Instruction. Previously, I was teaching 5th and 6th grade Social Studies at Portage Park Elementary. This will be my 7th year in education, and I’m excited to be spending it at Sauganash!
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at [email protected]

Welcome Back!!!!
Welcome to a new school year! I am thrilled to begin my ninth year teaching Writing and Social Studies at Sauganash School. Prior to coming to Sauganash, I had the pleasure of teaching and living in Hong Kong for nearly five wonderful years!
Some of my happiest times in the classroom are when students gain confidence as emerging writers. I also keep an extensive classroom library and it is my goal to foster a love for reading in each of my students! My favorite memories at Sauganash include collaborating with sixth grade students to bring Chromebooks to our school, raising community awareness about the need for a library and raising money for Misericordia Candy Days!
Overall, fifth and sixth grade is a very exciting time and I can't wait to learn and grow with all of you! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns that you may experience throughout the school year.
I look forward to another great year!
Mrs. Hadfield
